Jon is a recognised Commercial Leader and Lean Construction practitioner. He has a keen interest in improving productivity and the financial sustainability of the construction industry. Through his in depth understanding of construction sector project management systems and procedures Jon is able to apply lean principles to achieve significant operational efficiencies.
Tell us a bit about your background and how you came to work in digital construction?
I am fortunate to wear a number of different hats including CEO of Queensland Major Contractors Association which provides me access across the construction industry. I became interested in lean construction as I want the industry to be a better place to work and to become more productive.
What is the most exciting thing about your role?
My role enables me to bridge the gaps between the many different silos in our industry.
Can you tell us a bit about the projects you’re working on and what role innovation and technology is playing?
I am working on a number of projects where lean construction is being trialled and significant schedule savings achieved.
Tell us about a recent innovation or technology that you’ve been most impressed by.
I’m impressed by the potential for use of real time data such as plant productivity to better inform project decision making.
What challenge in your work life would you most like a technology or process to help solve?
Too many emails!
How important is the Future Infrastructure Summit to the industry?
The Future Infrastructure Summit plays an important role in sharing the good work being undertaken in our industry to increase adoption of new technology and work practices.
Can you tell us a bit about your session at Future Infrastructure Summit 2019?
In Brisbane I will be sharing a last planner case study involving a current road project in Brisbane. In Melbourne I will be discussing the top ten benefits of adopting a lean construction approach and how to realise them.
Tell us a fun fact about yourself that most people don’t know.
I am passionate about football (soccer) and am a Director of Grange Thistle Soccer Club
What do you see as the most interesting and exciting future applications for digital technology in construction?
I think that the use of digital technology can help to breakdown the traditional silos present in our industry that prevent greater collaboration.
